Director Terence Malick is about as polarizing a figure as there is in American cinema. And while critical reaction to his latest movie runs the spectrum from “visionary” to “incoherent,” Song to Song does what Malick does best: take an A-list cast (led by Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling and Natalie Portman), set it against a recognizable yet not entirely familiar backdrop (the Austin music scene), and film it with such intensity you may not care what’s actually going on. Love them or hate them, Malick’s films will always give you something to talk about.
