Celebrate Summer

As we approach the summer months, there is so much happening. Children and teens are completing another year of school. Seniors and their parents have survived ProGrad and graduation. Collegiate students have completed their current year and may or may not return home to spend the summer with their parents. And some will achieve even greater life milestones as they graduate college or get married. Time flies.

This summer, I am reminded to celebrate the little things in life: beautiful days, health, family, friends and living in such a wonderful county as Fort Bend with all of its amenities and opportunities to get involved and enjoy life!

Our cover story highlights one of those amenities, our own Farmers Market at Imperial Sugar Land, where you can browse and pick up fresh fruits and vegetables to create your own fresh and healthy recipes. The Farmers Market at Imperial is a year-round market offering locally grown produce, so residents of Sugar Land and beyond can enjoy the freshest-tasting produce, view one-a-kind arts and crafts and purchase interesting, artistic finds.

Also this summer, people will be taking some much-needed vacation time to relax or travel and create precious memories. In Trends to Try, I share a few of my favorites, including a travel pick. This summer, I am fortunate to be able to travel to California to see my daughter, Alison Whitehurst, and many talented singers and performers in the theatre musical, Born for This, The BeBe Winans Story. I always enjoy an opportunity to take a quick trip and see some great shows.

In this issue, we honor one of Fort Bend’s own stars – Mary Favre – in Sassy Sixties. Mary is the perfect example of energy, involvement and spunk. Then on page 16, read about Riki Graves, a courageous mother who now resides in Sugar Land and her journey overcoming medical challenges for her daughter and herself. And, our Summer Spotlight shines on some fabulous products perfect for this summer.

In each issue, we also celebrate events and activities that support health and wellness in Fort Bend, so check out Out and About with absolutely! fit & fab on page 28. And mark your calendars for Girls Getting Fabulous!, our women’s event at Whole Foods Market – Sugar Land on Thursday, July 20th, from 6 to 8 pm.

Hope to see you there!

Absolutely! yours,
